Travel

Lugano is situated in Ticino, the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, close to the Italian border. The city is extremely easy to reach by means of both public and private transportation. It has a very convenient regional airport with direct connections. Furthermore, the international airport of Milano-Malpensa is located at only 60 km from Lugano and is served by means of a coach service and, from June 2018, a train service.

By Air

Lugano Airport, located at Lugano-Agno, is 6 km from the city centre. The airport is small and therefore has short check-in and boarding operations (20 minutes before departure) and offers daily connections between Ticino and the main Swiss cities of Zurich and Geneva and the Italian capital Rome.

The train connection from Zurich airport (about 220 km from Lugano) is an efficient and pleasant option; with the new rail link through the Alps opened in December 2016. The journey – through some of Switzerland’s most beautiful landscapes and views – takes about 2.5 hours. Please visit https://www.sbb.ch/ for prices, timetables and online bookings.

From June 2018, Lugano is also connected by train to Milan-Malpensa International Airport, the closest international airport (about 60 km from Lugano). The train trip takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. Please visit https://www.trenord.it/EN/ for prices, timetables and online bookings.

Milan-Malpensa International Airport is also conveniently serviced by different bus connections, with the trip taking about 1 hour. Detailed information on timetables and ticket prices can be found on the websites of the operating companies:

Malpensa-Express – Giosy Tours
Lugano Services
Jetbus

Other alternatives are Milan-Linate and Bergamo-Orio al Serio airports, both in Italy, connected to Milan by bus and then to Lugano by train.

Private Transfer Services

Amiconi Consulting SA can be contacted to arrange private transfer services, for both individuals and groups, from and to the airports (Milan-Linate, Milan-Malpensa, Bergamo-Orio al Serio and Lugano-Agno) and the city of Lugano and its surroundings. If you want to book any services, please contact Amiconi Consulting SA for a quotation (info@amiconiconsulting.ch) or complete the PDF Booking Form, where you will also be able to find the terms and conditions of booking.

By Rail

The Swiss National Railway is extremely long and allows you to conveniently reach Lugano from the rest of Switzerland and from other international destinations. From the railway station, the Congress Hall can either be reached on foot (approx. 15 minutes) or by means of public transportation: funicular or bus.

By Road

Lugano is on the international Gothard motorway (Zurich-Chiasso-Milan) which directly connects Northern Europe with the Mediterranean.

It is possible to park in the multi-storey car park right in front of the Congress Hall, located under Piazza Castello. Other city centre car parks are available within walking distance.

All delegates staying in a hotel, hostel or camping in the Ticino region and subject to the full tourist tax are entitled to the Ticino Ticket – a pass valid for the duration of their stay. Ticino Ticket holders can use – free of charge – the regular public transportation system (including trains, buses and postal buses of the “Arcobaleno Community”) and receive a discount on cable cars, funicular and other tourist attractions. Details are available at: https://www.ticino.ch/en/ticket.html
